Cambodia’s Water Festival (Bonn Om Touk)

November 1-2-3 2009

The Water Festival (Bonn Om Touk) in Cambodia takes place each year in October or November, at the time of the full moon, and is the most extravagant and exuberant festival in the Khmer calendar, outdoing even the new year celebrations.

Starting on the day of the full moon in late October or early November, up to a million people from all walks of life and from all over the country flock to the banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers in Phnom Penh to watch traditional boats racing on a huge scale. Every year more than 300 of the brightly colored boats with over 2,500 paddlers battled it out for top honors. The boat racing dates back to ancient times marking the strength of the powerful Khmer marine forces during the Khmer empire.

During the day, the boats race in pairs along a kilometer-long course, and then in the evening brightly decorated floats cruise along the river prior to and during the nightly fireworks displays. There is often a parallel festival at Angkor Wat and although it is smaller in scale it is just as impressive due to the backdrop of Angkor Wat.

The festival marks the changing of the flow of the Tonle Sap River and is also seen as thanksgiving to the Mekong River for providing the country with fertile land and abundant fish. It is at this time when the river flow reverts to its normal downstream direction. In a remarkable phenomenon, the Tonle Sap River earlier reverses its course as the rainy season progresses, with the river flowing “upstream” to Tonle Sap Lake.

ស្ថាប​ត្ក​ម្ម (Architecfure) គឺជា​សិល្បៈ​ក្នុងការ​សាងសង់​ប្រកបដោយ​ការប្រកប​ដោយ​ការតុបតែង តាម​ក្បួនខ្នាត​បន​បដ​ទៅទៀត​នេះ​យើង​ខ្ញុំ្ញ​សូម​បង្ហាញ​អំពី​ស្ថាបត្យកម្ម​ខ្មែរ​សម័យមុន​អង្គរ និង​សម័យ​ក្រោយ​អង្គរ​ដែល​មា​នា​ន​ឈ្មោះ​ល្បី​ល្បា​ញា​ញ​ពាសពេញ​ពី​ភព​លោក ។ ត្រង់​ពាក្យ​សិល្បៈ (សិល្បៈ-សំ-សី​ប្ប-បា) គឺ​សំដៅ​ទៅលើ​ការសាងសង់​ផ្សេង ជំនាញ ហត្ថកម្ម​គ្រប់បែបយ៉ាង ដែលមាន​សោភ័ណ និង​ប្រកបដោយ​សិល្ប៍ ពោលគឺ​ធ្វើឱ្យ​មនុស្ស​គាប់ចិត្ដ គាប់​អារម្មណ៍ ចង់​មើល ចង់ឃើញ ចង់​ស្ដាប់ ជាដើម ។

រចនាបថ(Style)គឺ​សំដៅ​ទៅលើ​សិល្បៈ​ក្នុងការ​សាងសង់ ឬ​តាក់តែង​លំអរ​តាម​គំនិត​របស់​ព្រះមហាក្សត្រ​ក្នុងការ​ស្ថាបនា​ប្រាសាទ​បុរាណ។ នៅក្នុង​សម័យ​បុរាណ​គេ​បាន​ចែក​រចនាបថ ដាច់​ដោយ​ឡែក​ពីគ្នា ដែល មាន​រហូត​ទៅដល់១៣រចនាបថ (Style)ក្នុង​រចនាបថ​និមួយៗ មាន​កសាង​និងលក្ខណៈ​ពិសេសៗ​ខុសគ្នា​ទៅ តាម​សម័យ​កាល​មួយៗ ។

១-រចនាបថ​ភ្នំ​ដា(គ.ស.វ​ទី១ដល់គ.ស.វ​ទី៦)

តាម​ការ​ធ្វើការ​កំណាយ​នៅក្នុង​អង្គរបុរី និង​នៅ​អូ​កែវ (កម្ពុជា​ក្រោម)បាន​បង្ហាញ​ថា សិល្បៈ​សម័យ ហ្វូណន ដែល​គេ​បញ្ចូល​ទៅក្នុង​រចនាបថ​ភ្នំ​ដា ដោយ​យក​ប្រាសាទ​នៅ​ភ្នំ​ដា​ធ្វើជា​គោល ។ ភ្នំ​ដា​ស្ថិតនៅ​ជិត​អង្គរបុរី ក្នុង​ខេត្ដ​តាកែវ ។ នៅក្នុង​សម័យ​ហ្វូណន ប្រទេស​ខ្មែរ​មាន​ទំនាក់ទំនង​ជាច្រើន​ជាមួយ​ឥណ្ឌា​ជាពិសេស​ក្នុង​វិស័យ​សិល្បៈ។
